Our Texas Certified Nursery Professionals

Let us introduce ourselves.

James Gill

I am a  native of Corpus Christi and a gradute from WB Ray High School and attended Texas A&M University, College Station. In 1978 Sally and I opened our business under the name of "Hermosa Landscaping".  One year later we changed it to "Gill Landscape Nursery".  I am the President of our company and one of three landscape designers.  I specialize in Xeriscapes, Native Plants, Backyard Ponds, and drainage problems.  I'm a Texas Master Certified Nursery Professional.

Sally Gill

I'm a native of Corpus Christi, graduated from WB Ray High School and then the University of Texas At Austin with a B.S. in Advertising and minor in Business.  James and I started our business in 1978, one year after graduating from college, under the name "Hermosa Landscaping".  We married in 1979, and then changed to our current name, "Gill Landscape Nursery".  I work along side James, but our roles are very different.  I manage the business side of the operation, while he continues to educate himself and our co-workers on the exciting world of plants.  We have two children, Stuart and Trevor.

Kathy Hubner, Landscape Designer

I am a Corpus Christi native and a graduate of Texas A&M, Kingsville.  I have been with Gill Landscape Nursery since 1987.  I am a certified board member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers and a member of Leadership Corpus Christi, class 24.  I specialize in residential and commercial landscape design, estimates and installations.  I am also a certified member of Texas Certified Nursery Professionals.

Debbie Pinkerton, Buyer

I was born and raised in Corpus Christi and graduated from Richard King High School.  I started with Gill Landscape Nursery 9 years ago as a sales person and was promoted to buyer.  I am a Texas Certified Nursery Professional and the author of our “Helpful Hints”.  I also organize seminars for spring, summer and fall.  I am always exploring new plant varieties and looking for the best quality plants available for you, our customers.

DeAnna Baumgartner, Manager - Alameda Store

I began working at Gill Nursery Landscape in 1985 at our Airline location.  In 1988 the Alameda location was opened and I became manager.  We learned very quickly that the market was different on the other side of town.  Being in a more established neighborhood, the focus was on color rather than trees and shrubs.  We had to adapt quickly, which we did with great excitement.  Adding color to a yard is the beauty of gardening.  We specialize in flowers, interior blooming gift plants, outdoor color bowls and many blooming shrubs and perennials.  Teaching customers how to garden successfully is what our business is all about.  I have been a Texas Certified Nursery Professional for 20 years.

Chuck Sodek, Manager - Airline Store

I was born in Temple, Texas, graduated from Temple High School and have a B.S. in Environmental Science from Southwest Texas State University.  I grew up in the grocery business.  My parents owned a Mom & Pop grocery store and I worked my way through school there.  I was later employed by McLane Southwest, a Grocery Distributer for 20 years as a District Manager in South Texas.  Gardening has always been in my blood (I think from my farming Grandparents) and have been at Gill's for 2 years.  I am a Texas Certified Nursery Professional and strive on teaching customers on gardening successfully.

Hidalgo Salas Jr., Production Manager

As a Corpus Christi native, I graduated from W.B. Ray High School where I studied horticulture.  I am also a Del Mar graduate.  Fourteen years ago, I started at Gill's in the nursery department and then moved into the landscape crew.  At Gill's, I increased my knowledge of horticulture concepts and aquired my landscaping skills as I worked on the job.  As a landscape crew leader, my team and I developed great satisfaction helping the company beautify South Texas communities.  Now, as a production manager, I'm out in the field providing resources, supervising crews for quality work and troubleshooting unforeseen events.  Back in the office, my duties are to schedule projects and work crews.  Another function is to ensure the crews have materials, equipment and other resources necessary for their projects.  Since we work with other businesses and contractors, I work on coordinating our crews with theirs for the success of all projects.
