This Saturday: Cactus Growing Talk with Bigfoot’s Rockeaters!

Cactus Grow Talk

Did you know there’s a new cactus grower + nursery and pottery shop in Kingsville called Bigfoot’s Rockeaters?! And did you know they’ll be here at Gill’s this Saturday, May 23rd (rain or shine) to show off some of their rare specimens, handmade pottery, and give a talk about how to grow cacti?! They’ll cover all kinds of growing tips for cacti, which ones can withstand freezing temps outside, cultivation techniques, and more. This one is sure to be very informative – here’s a preview from the cacti experts, Kaylor and Kaitlin!

We’re Kaitlin and Kaylor — the family behind Bigfoot’s Rockeaters. What started as a shared love of plants (and one cactus Kaitlin originally refused to care for) slowly grew into a passion for cultivation, creativity, and community. Kaylor fell in love with cactus and endangered Texas species, while Kaitlin’s lifelong love of plants helped shape the heart of what Bigfoot’s Rockeaters would become. Today, we’ve built a family-owned space in Kingsville, Texas where plants, pottery, yoga, and earthy living all come together.

This upcoming talk will focus on cold hardy cactus and drought tolerant plants, including species that can tolerate extreme heat, limited water, and occasional freezes. We’ll discuss environmental adaptations, cultivation techniques, soil considerations, and examples of resilient cactus and arid plants suited for challenging growing conditions. The discussion will also touch on native and endangered Texas species and their importance to the ecosystem.

We will be bringing in Mammillaria, Gymnocalycium, Rebutia and a few other cultivars along with some of Kaylor’s custom pottery! See y’all this Saturday at Gill’s!
