Working here always brings its share of surprises. On Sunday I had a customer come in and ask if we had any tomato hornworms on our plants in the garden. I said, “No! Thank goodness”. Much to my surprise, she said “Well darn it! Neither do mine!”. Wait…what?! She then explained that she grows tomatoes just for the hornworms. She uses them as treats for her reptiles, and this year she hasn’t had any! So I looked it up online and there they were. Tomato Hornworms: 15 worms for $15. Seriously?! I’ve been losing money all these years! It just goes to show, one persons pest is another one’s treat.

One of James’ dreams for Gill’s was to build a business where
Now meet Kady. Kady was a student at Texas A&M CC, earning an undergraduate degree in psychology. Her passion is helping young people with special needs. Kady had worked at another garden center so she had plant experience. In my interview with her, even more than experience, I was delighted with her quest for knowledge and with her energy. Excitement with plants and desire to help people exuded from her. HIRED!
