You may have heard that marigolds are a great companion plant for tomatoes or other veggies, but why? Marigolds actually have a compound in their root system called alpha-terthienyl, which naturally repels nematodes in your soil. Not only do they repel the bad bugs, but because of their bright blossoms they also help to attract bees and butterflies to the garden. This in turn will help you have a more productive harvest. So make sure to border your veggie bed with a bright ring of orange and yellow marigolds. Not only will they look great, but they’ll help your garden be the best it can be! One last tip! Make sure to fertilize your marigolds with Medina Hasta-Gro Fertilizer once a month to keep them blooming.
